Training,skills and Equipment All members of the Blackwood Community First Responder team undergo intensive training and assessment with Paramedic Training Officers from South Wales Ambulance Service NHS Trust, to enable them to delivery the following level of skills and care using the equipment below:
Skills and equipment which First Responders are qualified in:- Use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED - see Above)) Oxygen TherapyBag-Mask-Valve Resuscitation and Airway Adjuncts CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) First Aid, Patient Care & Assessment Recognition of cause and type of illness/injury Scene safety & Incident Management
Types of medical emergencies which A First Responders Skills are Used for:- Category "A" calls - (serious, life threatening):-Cardiac arrest Unconscious and collapsed patients Chest pains (e.g. heart attacks and acute angina) Breathing difficulties (e.g. asthma, acute on-set bronchitis/emphysema) Diabetic emergencies (e.g. hypoglycemia) Fitting or convulsions (e.g. epilepsy) Stroke (CVA) Anaphylaxis (allergic reaction) Choking patients. Community First Responders also undergo retraining and testing every six months with South Wales Ambulance Service to ensure that all team members can give the best possible care to our community. Regular team meetings and training excercises also take place.
